Program Description

The After-School & Tutoring Program at Happy Hearts Learning Centre (HHLC) provides academic support, cultural mentorship, and social development opportunities for vulnerable youth, including newcomers, Black and immigrant youth, Indigenous youth, and children experiencing learning or behavioural challenges. Our program helps students integrate confidently into the Alberta school system, strengthen their academic performance, and build a positive sense of identity and belonging. With trained staff, volunteer tutors, and community mentors, HHLC offers a safe, structured, and culturally supportive environment where youth can learn, grow, and thrive. Elementary and junior-high

Program Objectives

Youth participate in a variety of interactive and educational activities, including: • Homework help and tutoring in all major school subjects • Literacy and numeracy skill-building through games, activities, and practice • One-on-one mentorship with caring adult mentors and trained volunteers • Study habits and organization workshops (note-taking, exam prep, time management) • STEM, arts, and creativity projects that spark interest and exploration • Cultural identity sessions celebrating Black, Indigenous, and diverse heritage • Leadership and personal development workshops • Recreational activities promoting teamwork and healthy peer interaction
